Charitable Battle of the Flavors at Tèo

By Mae Hamilton, April 16, 2018, 5:16pm, On the Range

For a limited time, eating gelato will help contribute to a cause greater than just waistbands. Gelato giant Tèo has teamed up with some of Austin’s food writers and foodies for a well-intended flavor creation contest.

The Austinot's Samantha Saenz, AustinFoodstagram's Rachel Holtin, and A Taste of Koko's Jane Ko will be vying for the No. 1 seller’s spot now through May 14 at Tèo’s brick-and-mortar location. The flavor that sells the most pans will get 10% of proceeds donated back to its creator’s choice of charity.

Together with Tèo founder Matthew Lee, the contestants cooked up unique, off-the-shelf gelato flavors. Saenz went for a Strawberry Nutella Toast flavor and will be donating to Austin Pets Alive!, Holtan concocted Matcha Fantastico and donating to Healthcode.org, while Ko decided on a Birthday Cake flavor with donations going to the Central Texas Food Bank. Not only will a charity receive cold hard cash, but the most successful flavor will be pitched to H-E-B for possible placement on their hallowed shelves. Spoons up, dudes.
