Art & Beer Bazaar Brings HOPE This Weekend

Connecting artists with a cause is what HOPE does. And on November 18-19, from 3-9pm, they’ll be showcasing their mission through art, beer, and community.

The annual Hops for HOPE: Art & Beer Bazaar serves as the last leg of the East Austin Studio Tour and will highlight the work of 25 artists. The HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere) Campaign dedicates its time to connecting artists with a social conscious to projects and events.

This weekend they’ll transform the expansive space inside Fair Market into a maze of murals. While your eyes are greeted by a swirl of colors and shapes, your taste buds can go on an adventure of their own with beer tastings from 10 local breweries (with 20 varieties of beer each day), including Hops & Grain, Lagunitas Brewing, Live Oak Brewing Company, Deschutes Brewery, Independence Brewing Co., Austin Beerworks, South Austin Brewery, and more. HOPE Farmers Market vendors – Tamale Addiction, Daily Spread, Emojis Grilled Cheese Truck, and HOPE Kitchen – will be selling food. Guests will receive a commemorative HOPE tasting glass and koozie with a donation.

Also making an appearance at the show will be a visual diary of the Outdoor Gallery (also known as Graffiti Park at Castle Hill) called These Walls Can Talk. The community-sourced art book commemorates the beloved Austin icon that quickly became a go-to spot for tourists and locals alike (even though it was never meant to be permanent) with photos & stories ranging from 2010-16. Earlier this year, the group announced the outdoor art space would be looking for a new home, after seven years on Baylor Street.

Lauren Pasternack, vice chair & associate producer for HOPE says artists have full reign over their materials and can advocate for whatever cause they feel connected to, which is the special part of HOPE and its projects. But, even without a central theme to the gallery, Pasternack did say they’ll be unveiling the new location for the HOPE Outdoor Gallery. It will include a campaign design themed “These Walls Bring Us Together" by artist Preacher.

The tickets for the event are donation-based in an effort to raise money for their various 2017 HOPE projects, including the HOPE Farmers Market and HOPE Outdoor Gallery.
