Since opening three years ago, the Patrizi’s food truck inside the Butterfly Bar/ Vortex has inspired a small cult for its simple but elevated approach to Italian food and its housemade pasta. Now owner Nicholas Patrizi hopes to do the same thing for Cajun food, with new venture Vic & Al’s at the Scoot Inn.
The initial menu features classically-inspired plates like buttermilk-brined blackened chicken thigh, slow-roasted pork shoulder inspired by cocoon du last, and a seasonal veggie plate – all served with dirty rice and maque choux. The “vittles” section features small plates like eggplant sott’olio, cajun rillette, chicken liver pâté, and gumbo, while the bar snacks include boudin with remoulade and a cochon du lait po’boy.
Like Patrizi’s, Vic & Al’s is an homage of sorts, taking their name from a restaurant that Nicholas and Matt Patrizi’s grandparents opened in Beaumont in 1946. The opening day has been scheduled sometime in March.
