Shake Shack Rocks Out

By Brandon Watson, October 26, 2015, 2:15pm, On the Range

Tyson Cole earns (another) honor, Whisler's gets hairy, and more in today's food news.

If there is any food more associated with rock music than the burger, we’d like to eat it. Sleater-Kinney was on Bob’s Burgers earlier this year, Jimmy Buffett is still making a living peddling "Cheeseburger[s] in Paradise,” and there are not one, but two, record labels named after the most American of foods. So it makes sense that Shake Shack would be starting an all-local first Tuesday music series alternating between their two Austin locations. And it makes even more sense that Hops & Grain beer would be half off, because you’ll need something rocking to wet your whistle. The series kicks off Tuesday, Nov. 3 at the Domain location with well-dressed trio Supernomadic.

There’s still some time to help fight breast cancer through Opal Divine’s Drink Pink promotion. Until the end of the month, the restaurant will be giving a portion of the proceeds from sales of the Prickly Pear Margarita or a Divine Paloma to Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas, an organization that helped co-owner Susan Parker though her own battle with the disease.

On Thursday, Oct. 29 from 6-10pm, the focus is on men’s health at Whisler’s. In partnership with Jameson Irish Whiskey, the church of craft cocktails is hosting a Movember Shave off featuring a barbershop upstairs at Mezcalaría Tobalá and Jameson Black Barrel cocktail specials.

The editors at Time Out have named the dynamic duo of Uchi and Uchiko as the best sushi restaurant in the gosh darned U.S.A. Please extend congrats to Tyson Cole and his team, who are probably too modest to blare "You're the Best" by Joe Esposito over the restaurants’ sound systems.

Next week, the American Legion Travis Post 76 will turn into the Austin Blind Cafe. The event turns out the lights for a vegetarian tasting menu served by a blind wait staff and facilitated by a blind keynote speaker. Tuesday-Thursday, Nov. 3-5, seatings at 6pm and 8:30pm. Tickets available here.
