It’s Not Coffee That’s Brewing Up There in the Clouds
But we’ll be swigging it down while the sky opens its floodgates again
By Wayne Alan Brenner, 1:00PM, Wed. Oct. 21, 2015
Here comes the rain again, as the Eurythmics sang back in the day.
It ain’t coffee that will be raining from the big Texas sky – but then, Austin is always flooded with the dark and tasty brew, isn’t it?
We’ve got UT here, with its students and its insomnia-plagued academic crowd. We’ve got the *fnord* Texas Lege here, and the various units of human instrumentality necessary to keep it functioning.
And this town, while increasingly less affordable, is still lousy with artists and musicians and other creative sorts.
So how the hell could we not be awash in the divine bean’s fortifying elixir? And how could we not note that, oh, the rain, it falleth on the caffeinated and the non-caffeinated alike?
Which is why we’re offering this curated bouquet of information for your coffee education and entertainment, dear reader, as things begin to get all torrential here in the ATX.
1. Our favorite new writer Heidi Meurer tells you of several excellent places to get some damned good coffee in this town, in this recent article we would’t want you to miss.
2. Our longtime scribe Wayne Alan Brenner has also covered the coffee scene, having interviewed the owners of Bennu and Kick-Butt and Flipnotics about the sort of planning and fuss and bother it takes to run a java joint in Austin, and …
3. … reviewing Drift, the international coffee magazine whose stunning second issue focused on Tokyo, and …
4. … providing that initial glimpse of Cuvée Coffee’s nitrogen-brewed java at the company’s gorgeous Eastside venue, and …
5. … offering an even deeper view of the venerable Third Coast Coffee Roasters.
