It's Grub Trivia Time Again

Round up all those know-it-all foodie friends of yours and start studying that food-stained copy of the Larousse Gastronomique, because it's time for the annual Grub Trivia contest hosted by Slow Food Austin.

If you're a glutton for gastronomic geekery and want to test your voluminous culinary knowledge against others who are so inclined, this is the Sunday afternoon party for you. Slow Food Austin invites food lovers for an air-conditioned afternoon at Saengerrunde Hall for tasty local food, inspired local libations, and good trivia fun.

John and Kendall Antonelli of Antonelli's Cheese are the genial masters of ceremonies, butcher Bryan Butler of Salt & Time will provide half-time entertainment by breaking down a hog, and guest auctioneer Andy Langer will sell cuts to the crowd.

Local Slow Food restaurant chefs, artisans, and caterers such as the Hightower, L'Oca D'Oro, Easy Tiger, Coterie Market, Bufalina, Lick Honest Ice Creams, Thai Fresh, SRSLY Chocolate, Skull & Cakebones Bakery, Fluff Meringues & More, and Cafe Josie will provide a tempting buffet of appetizers and sweets. The open bar will offer Texas Keeper cider, local beer, plus cocktails made with vodka and whiskey from Banner Distilling Company *.

Slow Food Austin will also present the Snailblazer of the Year that recognizes the contribution of an individual or business who has made a significant impact for the mission of "Good, Clean, Fair Food" this year. It's a great time to celebrate with representatives of the larger Austin food community. If I had a team this year, I'd suggest we brush up on our trivial acumen with a couple of games of Foodie Fight (Chronicle Books, $18.95), a Trivial Pursuit-like board game with over 1,000 food questions.

Here's how it works: Round up a team of two to six people and come up with an outrageously clever foodie name.
