Can You Say EAUFT?

By Virginia B. Wood, April 6, 2015, 11:00am, On the Range

Thanks to recent rains, Austin's well-loved urban farms are all decked out in spring blossoms and greenery, ready to welcome visitors on the sixth annual East Austin Urban Farm Tour on Sunday, April 12 from 1-5pm.

The four farms on the tour are conveniently located in central East Austin, within walking or biking distance from one another. If you're driving, it's a good idea to start your tour by parking on the front lot or along Lyons Road at Boggy Creek Farm, or park on the lot at Allen Elementary behind Springdale Farm and walk to the other farms from either place, for minimum neighborhood traffic congestion.

As always, a selection of local restaurant chefs, artisan food producers, craft brewers, distillers, cider makers, and other beverage artisans will be on hand at each farm, serving food and drinks that reflect the seasonal culinary bounty of the individual farms. Scroll down for a list of tastes and sips. Tour the fields of each farm to appreciate the different crops they're got under cultivation. Check out one of Austin's oldest surviving homesteads at Boggy Creek, visit the delightful animal menagerie at HausBar Farm, inquire about East Austin's ultimate farm-to-table restaurant at Springdale, and observe the flowering olive trees that will produce Rain Lily Farm's first olive crop this year.

The proceeds of this year's tour will benefit the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance, a national nonprofit that advocates practical policies for small, independent family farms and ranches, supporting a healthy and productive food system for us all. The tour is $50 for adults, and kids 10 and under get in free. This rain or shine event always sells out, but there are still some tickets available here.
