Dogfish Head Instigates Tap Takeover

Dogfish Head heads in Austin have reason to celebrate this weekend, as the Delaware-based hops-happy brewery announced it’s taking over some taps at the Alamo Drafthouse Off-Centered Film Festival with seven Occasional Rarity brews.

The offer, announced late Wednesday, will make seven highly unavailable flavors briefly available to the Alamo Drafthouse Lakeline (14028 US 183) in far northwest Austin and its adjacent Glass Half Full Taproom, with $1 from each beer sold throughout the weekend going directly to the Texas Craft Brewer’s Guild, the closest thing we as a city have to a homebrewing community lobby group.

Among the Dogfish rarities offered, detailed in list form below, are the Etrusca, the brown sugar and raisin-inflected Raison D'etre, and the slow-roasted, cilantro-flavored Positive Contact.

This is the eighth year that DfH founder Sam Calagione and Drafthouse CEO Tim League have joined at the proverbial hip to present the Off-Centered Film Festival. Last year’s event centered around “hip hops, with a heavy emphasis on the hops” and offered screenings of movies like Friday and 8 Mile alongside a series of hoppy Dogfish Head brews.

This year’s theme centers around the phrase "Stuntin" and offers screenings of Lonely Planet’s Hot Rod, Harold Lloyd's Safety Last, and Jackie Chan’s Drunken Master.
