Sweets for your Sweetie

By Melanie Haupt, February 10, 2014, 2:05pm, On the Range

Valentine’s Day is this Friday and we all know what that means: you’re running short on time to find the perfect treat to ply your lover’s sweet tooth. Never fear! You’ve got another day or two to place the order for just the right thing that will get your special friend’s heart pounding and fat cells a-jiggling.

Get your order in just under the wire with the following sweets purveyors:

Coco Paloma Desserts is offering up a gorgeous 6” round chocolate cake with dark chocolate sea salt ganache and a personalized inscription on top. $75, order by Feb. 11 for pick up on Feb. 14.

In addition to customized cakes, beloved bake shop Sugar Mama’s has an assortment of cookies and cupcakes, including the absolutely delightful pink champagne (usually January’s flavor of the month), chocolate covered cherry, chocolate covered strawberry, and chocolate covered raspberry flavors. Cookies include conversation hearts, raspberry linzers, lavender chocolate macarons, and chocolate-dipped crispy treats. Order by noon on Wednesday, February 12.

University-area newcomer Royer’s Pie Haven mixes things up a bit with a heart-shaped “sinnamon" roll, heart-shaped ding-dongs, chocolate-dipped pie truffles in a heart-shaped box, cherry pies in mason jars, and a chocolate cherry pie. Delivery is available.

While the pre-ordering stage has passed, your vegan sweetheart will welcome a two-pack of cupcakes (how about pb&j?), conversation heart cookies, and more from Capital City Bakery.

Grab a package of truffles or decorated shortbread cookies from Quack’s, as well as the traditional chocolate-covered strawberries from Amy’s Ice Cream and Lamme’s Candies.

This is just a sampling of the pink-and-red and chocolate-covered sweets you can bring a-courting this Valentine’s Day. What are some of your favorites?
