Wine Enthusiast Picks Texas Hill Country as One of the 10 Best Wine Travel Destinations of 2014

By Wes Marshall, January 14, 2014, 3:25pm, On the Range

Wine Enthusiast is committed to travel and wine is the ultimate entrée into the world’s most amazing destinations,” says Executive Editor Susan Kostrzewa. “This year’s list represents the best—and in some cases still unknown— places in which to marry a love of wine, food, and culture right now."

Wine geeks will all know the Wine Enthusiast magazine. 13 times a year in their print edition, they deliver some of the best wine writing and reviews in the business. I've written for them myself and I have the highest respect for the publication. So when I received the following press release stating that our Texas Hill Country has been picked as one of the 10 Best Wine Travel Destinations of 2014, all I could think was, “Finally.”

Those of us who follow Texas wines have known all along that some great wine is being made around the Hill Country. Some folks who have come across a few bad wines had decided the rest must be subpar as well, but that is just not true. Every place on earth has bad wines, from Napa to Bordeaux. But our Hill Country appellation has a huge number of brilliant wines and it is wonderful to finally see our hard working winemakers and grape growers get their proper respect from this internationally respected publication.

Congratulations to everyone in the Hill Country involved in the wine business!

Here’s the entire list, and notice we are in pretty good company.

The Aegean Islands, Greece

Valle de Guadalupe/Baja California, Mexico

Hill Country, Texas

Mendoza, Argentina

Sonoma, California

Baden, Germany

Barossa Valley, Australia

Walla Walla, Washington

Languedoc, France
