No sooner had a reader inquired about what happened to Bar Louie than I heard a rumor about a local restaurant group opening a restaurant in the W. Sixth St. space. Today's press release makes me wish I had reported the rumor last week.
The ELM Restaurant Group announced today that they will be adding an as-yet-unnamed Italian restaurant to the stable that consists of 24 Diner, Easy Tiger Beer Garden & Bake Shop, and Arro. Executive chef Drew Curren and Beverage Director Craig Collins already have a concept for the new eatery which will indeed replace Bar Louie at in the ground floor of the mid-century modern McGarrah-Jessee Building at 123 W. Sixth. According to the press release, Curren plans to "merge the pizzeria lunch culture" with a menu of rustic, seasonal dishes likely to be found in a Tuscan country home at suppertime. Master Sommelier Collins will offer a "user-friendly Italian wine program as well as a fine selection of cocktails and Italian aperitifs and digestifs." They are projecting an opening in the summer of 2014.
