Austin Bakes Steps Up to the Stove Again
Volunteer bake sales to raise money for flood victims
By Virginia B. Wood, 3:30PM, Fri. Nov. 29, 2013
This is not the first time these folks have stepped up to the stove to raise money in the wake of disaster. They baked up a storm in response to the tsunami in Japan a few years back and the all-volunteer group also raised a significant amount of money for folks in Bastrop after the catastrophic wildfire there, as well as for survivors of last year's plant explosion in West, Texas.
For this particular bake sale, they'll be donating the money to the Austin Disaster Relief Network, a local group assisting Austinites devastated by the recent flood. The Austin Bakes website has all kinds of worthwhile information about contributing to the bake sale - everything from recipe suggestions to packaging ideas to volunteering to set up, decorate, or collect donations at a table if you don't bake.
Bake sale items are available by donation and Austin Bakes is partnering with local businesses in all areas of town who are setting up sales tables. Stop by any of these locations on Saturday, Nov. 30th between 10am and 2pm
