Whole Foods Market in the Domain Opens January 2014

Gateway location to remain open after new store launch

The Whole Foods Market outlet near the Domain development in North Austin has been on the drawing board for several years. Postponed twice while the company built stores to serve the burgeoning population in the Southwest area of Travis County, Austin's fifth Whole Foods Market is finally set to come online in mid-January of 2014.

Austin's homegrown natural grocery behemoth announced today that when the Domain store debuts in the new year, the smaller North Austin store located a little less than three miles away in the Gateway Shopping Center (9607 Research Blvd), will remain open for business.

"Our guests have told us they'd like to continue shopping at Gateway," says Mark Dixon, Regional President of the company's Southwest region. "Every store is unique and offers shoppers an experience unlike any other grocery store."

At just over 65,000 square feet, the new Domain outlet will be the second largest Whole Foods store in the Austin market and should provide employment for about 300 people. The company plans to fill many of those positions at a job fair closer to the opening date. Plans are also already in the works for pre-opening events to give shoppers an opportunity to check out aspects of the new store. "The Domain store will really be a destination, and we're excited to begin sharing some of the unique features that will make this store so special to our guests, " says Austin community relations coordinator Rachel Malish.
