Congratulations to two Austin bars that made the coveted list of 16 Must-Try Cocktail Destinations Around the U.S. in the internationally famous Zagat Guide. Both Bar Congress and Midnight Cowboy made the desirable list curated by Zagat's editors from a list of winners voted on by consumers, whose comments are then integrated into the review.
Midnight Cowboy (313 E. Sixth) is listed as a “former Sixth Street massage parlor [that] has been transformed into a ‘reservation-only’ cocktail lounge with a ‘quiet,’ ‘speakeasy vibe,’ where ‘vintage cocktails’ are dispatched by a ‘friendly,’ ‘super-hipster’ staff; ‘they light up the vacancy sign’ when walk-in tables are available …” While they note it is expensive, they also decided it was worth elevating into this exotic list.
As for Bar Congress (200 Congress), the Zagat awards note that, “This adjunct to Downtown’s highly rated eatery Congress employs ‘skilled’ mixologists who conjure up ‘inventive’ cocktails in ‘chic,’ ‘swanky’ digs … including ‘fantastic’ service and ‘fabulous’ bar snacks by ‘local celebrity chef’ David Bull."
We happily concur on both opinions, so, hats off to both organizations. This is something to be proud of.
