Cat Art and Craft Beer and Vegan Bake Sales, Oh My!
Two events, three locations; As Austin as Austin gets
By Jessi Cape, 3:50PM, Wed. Apr. 24, 2013
It doesn't get anymore Austin than this, y'all.
Local vegan hotspot, Counter Culture (2337 E Cesar Chavez St), supports Thundering Paws with an art show dedicated to feline friends on Thursday, April 25, 7pm – 9pm.
Sustainable local brewery, Hops and Grain, owned by known animal lover Josh Hare, will provide the craft beers. 10% of art sales go straight to helping kitties and company.
This week is also the 4th Annual Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale and Austin boasts two host locations this year. Participants on six continents bake and sell their vegan treats for awareness and to benefit various nonprofits and organizations. Both bake sales are Sunday, April 28, 11am-2pm; one will be at Counter Culture and the other at MonkeyWrench Books (110 E North Loop).
Proceeds from both sales go to Sunny Day Farms Animal Sanctuary , “a non-profit organization committed to providing lifelong care to abandoned and abused animals, with a great focus on farm animal rescue and advocacy” and S.A.R.A Sanctuary, "which sets out to illustrate the value of companion animals; and thus the irresponsibility of allowing an unending cycle of reproduction, neglect and abuse of these animals." Volunteers to bake and/or work the sales may find out more info here.
