Dudes in Drag Shaking Drinks for a Good Cause
Tipsy Texan Hosts Cocktail Competition Jan. 15
By Gracie Salem, 12:30PM, Mon. Jan. 14, 2013
Gearing up for the San Antonio Cocktail Conference later this week, Tipsy Texan David Alan and Speed Rack, a national all-female speed bartending group, have created an event to raise money for breast cancer awareness and prevention.
Ten of Austin’s best female bartenders will attend the conference, vying for a spot in the national competition in New York later in the year. Call this party a dress rehearsal for the main event because the ladies are bringing along their favorite male co-worker, dressing him up in drag, working as his barback, and slinging some delicious drinks. It is a friendly competition to see which state can raise the most funds before the conference begins.
Bartenders from Midnight Cowboy, Drink.Well., The W Hotel, La Condesa, Haddington’s, The Moody Theater, The Tigress, and others will bring their best drinks (and dresses) to the Swoop House (3012 Gonzales) on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Things get going around 6 o’clock. Donations are accepted and some fun prizes will be raffled off, all for a good cause.
