Twisted X Brewing Company Celebrates First Year, Tex-Mex Style

It was definitely starting to feel like summer at Twisted X Brewing Company’s first anniversary/Cinco De Mayo celebration- good thing there was plenty of beer to counteract the heat.
The day had the feel of a backyard party at a friend’s house, fully-equipped with a kiddie castle, finger food, good music and family-style hospitality, with owners’ siblings manning the bar for eager guests.The company is proud to have one year of business under their belt and is eager for more space to grow.
The brewery, specializing in “Tex-Mex beer”, continuously offers their most popular beers, the Twisted X premium lager and the Fuego (a jalapeno-infused pilsner), at a dozen or so classy establishments in and around Austin. When their third barrel fermenter is vacant and they can stray from their top sellers, they offer other beers like the ChupaHopra, an IPA that stands alone as their only ale, and the malty and delicious dark lager Cow Creek. Both the Fuego and the Siesta prickly pear lager are delicious, and their additional flavors are quite subtle, with the jalapeno spice being a nearly-complete afterthought and the prickly pear lager having a slight sweetness to it.
The brewery is hustling to find a new home big enough for their aspirations so that they can offer a larger rotation of their keg beers. They have no choice but to expand out of their small 900-square foot warehouse by the end of the year, because they will need a space large enough to hold an anticipated delivery of new equipment.
Bill Davis, longtime friend of Twisted X co-owner Shane Bordeau, supplied the music for the festivities with his band Underwood, a nice, scruffy blend of rock and country. The music was just as fitting as the company slogan, “Always drink upstream from the herd”, nicely rounding off the Texan feel the company brings to their brews.
Peached Tortilla showed up just in time for lunch as people moved on to their second and third beers. This new fusion-style mobile caterer created by a self-proclaimed food trailer junkie focuses on tacos and sliders with an Asian twist.
