Daily Chron Events
Flavor tripping the night away.
The Chrontourage is the Austin Chronicle's promotions street team
Austin is full of fantastic chances to delight your senses but this event will be one that you remember for a long time. The Berry Fairy will be hosting a special "flavor tripping" event tonight at the Belmont! If you've never heard of flavor tripping before, here is the scoop from the press release:
The Berry Fairy is bringing Miracle Berry Flavor Tripping to Austin, TX. A portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to the local charity We Are Learning. Miracle berries are a native West African fruit that have an extraordinary effect when consumed. The "miracle" is that everything sour and bitter eaten afterwards will taste sweet for up to 2 hours. Lemons will taste like lemonade, vinegar like apple juice, goat cheese like cream cheese frosting, and stout beers like chocolate milk! Admission includes one miracle berry and a bacchanalian banquet of foods specially selected for the flavor tripping. Tito’s Vodka will be sponsoring a mad-mixologist vodka bar for guests to create their own taste-defying tonics.
Tickets to the event are $40 but they are offering a special discount to Chronicle readers if you purchase them at http://belmont731.eventbrite.com/?discount=chronpromo We are also giving away a pair of tickets to tonight's event!
Enter here to win tickets by 2:00pm today, July 31! www.theberryfairy.com

Michael Jackson Memorial Sing-Along at The Ritz
The Chrontourage is the Austin Chronicle's promotions street team.
Chrontourager Lauren made her way down to The Ritz this weekend to celebrate the life of the late great Michael Jackson. Here is what she had to say! "I never cared for Michael Jackson either way before he passed away last Thursday, June 25th, 2009. However, when I learned that the Alamo Drafthouse was having a memorial sing-along to the King of Pop, I felt like I had to go. I suddenly had this inescapable urge to sing and dance dance dance to the man's music. I knew that being at a place like The Ritz, with the audio and visual of MJ, and a room full of people who felt the same way would be something close to heavenly. And it was. Not a soul sat as we watched epic music video after music video. The entire crowd danced and sang and got up on stage and butchered every dance step to "Thriller". It was beautiful. After coming down from my high of the evening, I thought to myself, "If only when we all die the entire world got up and danced." Thoughts & Photos by Lauren Modery

The Hustle For Mayor
Ok, so here is the deal. This is one of the more exciting events that we've ever done here at the Chronicle, our very first Mayoral Forum, and it only took us 28 years! So far we've confirmed both Lee Leffingwell and Brewster McCracken for the forum and if clap really REALLY hard Carole Keeton Strayhorn may make a special appearance. Hustlers Wells and Mike B. have been cooking up a nice line-up of activities including celebrity questions, guest bartender (Council member Mike Martinez) and, best of all, a candidate Rhyme-Off! Just think 8 Mile but with a mayoral flair. Sooooo, details:

This weekend: 80's, Crawfish, & Extreme Sports... Oh My!
Well hopefully all of you have had a little time to relax and unwind after one hell of a SXSW. Did you get some rest? Good, because this week we are hitting the ground running. First up, tonight (Weds, Apr 1) we are heading to 80's Night at Speakeasy where LC Rocks will be rocking the best of the 80's. Break out the spandex and the Aquanet and let's just hope that nobody's hair catches on fire. (ps.... a little birdy told me that if you get there early, like 8pm, there may be free Miller Light and free Maker's Mark). Saturday, we're getting our grub on at The Louisiana Swamp Thing & Crawfish Festival held at the corner of MLK & Congress Ave near the Bob Bullock Museum. Crawfish kind of creep me out because they look like little insects but you know that they taste damn good and nothing washes down one of those little buggers like the cold beer that is sure to be on hand. Mix that with cajun & Zydeco music and you'll think you were in the bayou. Sunday, we return to MLK & Congress like some sort of bizarro flashback from the previous day. This time, instead of crawfish, the place will be swarming with the most extreme athletes you've ever seen. That's right, it's The Grind Extreme Sports & Music Festival. Witness live extreme sports like trick wakeboarding and skateboarding all set to a background of great live music (including one of my personal favorites The Black & White Years. We are giving away tickets to the Crawfish & Extreme Sports Fests through our online contest page (www.austinchronicle.com/contests) otherwise you can purchase them at www.roadwayevents.com.

Benefiting Aids Services of Austin
Viva Las Vegas Recap
Viva Las Vegas was a little bit of Vegas nightlife mixed with fashion week. It is nice to see a bit of change from the typical Lonestar tallboys and skinny jeans that you often encounter downtown. Plus, you get to help out Aids Services of Austin so that is always nice. Check out the photos by Matthew Wedgwood and the thoughts of Chrontourager Tran Pham to see a little of what you missed. Special thanks to Chrontourager Charles Heidrich for putting together a video of the night, we look forward to more in the future.
