FILM FIGHT Wrap-up Happy Hour!
As the dust settles on the first-ever Austin Chronicle Film Fight, a victor emerges. Kimberley Jones got out to a strong lead early in the week, and poor old Josh Rosenblatt just wasn't able to make up the difference. Voting is over, but now you can unwind with the contenders. What this means for you is that Kimberley will be programming a movie night for your enjoyment, this Thursday at the United States Art Authority (next to Spider House). Starting at 7pm, you'll get the chance to hang with the competitors, and throw a few back in celebration of Kimberley or pour some out in memory of Josh. We will have special prize giveaways, good people, and drink specials if you show up early:
$1 Drafts and $2 Wells until 8pm.

Cocktail World Cup: Submit your cocktail to represent Austin and the U.S.!
If you are a bartender, mixologist, or just fancy yourself as the creative type there is an extremely unique opportunity for you that ends this week. 42 Below Vodka sponsors the Cocktail World Cup every year in New Zealand where 42 bartenders from around the world compete to see who can devise the world's greatest and most unique drink. This year they have chosen Austin as one of the very few regions in the world to send a local representative to compete in the international competition in New Zealand later this year. This is your chance to create a brilliant drink, impress your friends, have some fun, and represent Austin and the United States in this world competition. First things first, if you or a friend want to enter go to www.cocktailworldcup.com by THIS FRIDAY July 11 and register yourself and your cocktail. You have to get this in by Friday in order to qualify for the regional competition. On their website you can also check out some photos and fantastic videos from the previous years to give you some inspiration. After all the submissions have been gathered we will release a list on July 17 of the top 10 local bartenders and their cocktails on www.austinchronicle.com/42belowvodka. Your job then is to vote and get your friends to vote on who you think has the best cocktail from this list. These votes will be tallied at the end of the week and the winner will be announced at an exclusively secret event on July 27. Those that vote will be automatically entered for a chance to win tickets to the party on the 27th. Whew... I know it is a lot to take in and there isn't much time left but maybe a little time crunch is just what you need to create the world's greatest cocktail. To recap:
1. Submit your cocktail to www.cocktailworldcup.com by Friday, July 11
2. Keep an eye out for special Chrontourage tasting events for your chance to sample some of the final drinks.
3. Starting July 17 vote for your favorite of the 10 finalists on austinchronicle.com/42belowvodka
4. When the winner is announced on July 27 cheer them on as they go to represent Austin in the Cocktail World Cup in New Zealand!

Happy 4th from the Chrontourage!
Here at the Chronicle we love a good celebration as much as the next alternative weekly, and what better time to celebrate than the birth of the good ol' U.S. of 'merica! That's right, it's July 4th again and that means plenty of BBQ, beer, sunshine, good friends (hopefully), and of course 'splosions! Living in such an urban area means no making your own kabooms or kapows (unless you use your mouth... which could be kinda fun) so you're best bet is at Auditorium Shores town by Town Lake. There will be a massive fireworks show with a musical accompaniment by the Austin Symphony. Free to all, show starts around 8:30pm. After you've celebrated you're independence from England and other colonial tyranny you should be ready to go America all over their asses at the Dethklok show at The Austin Music Hall on Sunday night! That's right, [adult swim]'s own animated house Death Metal band will blow the doors off of the Music Hall like the 'splosions from the days before. The Chrontourage will be there trying not be mauled by rabid fans or scalded with vats of hot coffee.

Another beer-n-bikes-centric weekend...
Perhaps this is becoming a pattern but I doubt it. If you felt that last weekend's motorized mayhem spoiled your lungs and your liver then may I introduce you to a bike that won't soil your lungs, it may in fact help your breathing. That's right, it's the good old fashioned bicycle! This weekend we are focusing on two of my favorite things in the whole world: bikes & beer. First up, on Friday night (June 20) between 5pm and 7pm the Chrontourage will set up camp at Opal Divine's Penn Field on South Congress to bring you this month's On The Chron Happy Hour. That means if you come and chat with us we will buy you a domestic beer on the Chrontourage's tab. I love getting to know our readers and the people in the Austin community and what better way to do that than over a couple of frosty (and free) beer. After the first round that we get you you can continue to partake of Opal Divine's HUGE beer and whiskey selection and delight in some of their fine cooking. On Saturday we will be helping out the Yellow Bike Project as they begin the massive task of transplanting their headquarters from the current location off of 51st Street before it gets demolished. The best part about this is that they are doing it all by bicycle! If you would like to be a part of this human-powered move check out their website (www.austinyellowbike.org) for details. Finally, on Sunday beer and bikes converge for the Urban Assault Ride. This wild bike powered scavenger hunt is more of a party than a race. Competitors will bike around and perform different challenges at various check points throughout the city. Come out and cheer on the competitors, I will be one of them! See you out... on a bike!

Gays + Bikes = Blue Oyster Bar?
Oh boy! It is that time of year that I look forward to every year, the unique clash of the Pride Texas Weekend and the Republic of Texas Biker Rally. Where else but in Austin would you find a collection of people from such seemingly different cultures landing in one place for a weekend of fun, family, and leather? This weekend you'll find the Chrontourage downtown in an exhaustive attempt to be find the mutual fun at the heart of both of these events. Friday night we'll be cruising around downtown checking out the bikes and grabbing some brews finally ending up at Club De Ville where we will watch 3 of Austin's best DJ's battle in the DJ Melee - Round 3. Saturday from noon to 7pm we will be set-up at the Pride Texas Festival at Auditorium Shores to celebrate the gay family-style. After that we'll have our very own "Pink" as the centerpiece for our Pride Parade entry. We'll be throwing out Chronicle goodies and swag along the way. Once the parade ends you'll find us cruising 6th Street on our trusty hogs (or my yellow trek mountain bike in my case) and mingling with Texas' best bikers and babes. I'll be the one wearing the "If you can read this, the bitch fell off t-shirt".

Busy weekend
Sometimes a weekend comes along that is so joyfully packed with great events that even the Chrontourage cannot be out at everything. Attempting to do so would spread the Chrontourage so thin it is likely to cover the earth and infect all the people with a strange need to invest heavily in the Hostess Snowball market. Despite that being a long-term plan of the Chrontourage the timing just isn't right so we are forced to limit ourselves in an uncharacteristic display of restraint. First up, the Black Angels will be performing on Friday Night at Emo's. Austin's own bring psychedelic rock the way it was meant to be heard. The Chrontourage will be there!
www.emosaustin.com Saturday, we have the Pachanga Latino Music Festival out at Waterloo Park. This is the flagship event to cap off Austin’s 3rd Annual Latino Music Month. The line-up is too long and industrious to list here but Grupo Fantasma & Vallejo are a couple of the featured artists, that ought to wet your appetite for the hot latin feast ahead. The Chrontourage will be there from noon to 4pm handing out Chronicle swag, tickets, and other goodies.
www.pachangafest.com Monday night we'll be out at La Zona Rosa to eagerly witness a piece of punk rock history as X performs with The Detroit Cobras. Sure it's a Monday night, but punk rock doesn't believe in the work week.
www.lazonarosa.com The biggest event that we'll be missing is World Wellness Weekend taking place at the Austin Convention Center. Think of it as a SXSW for Holistic Medicine, Alternative Healing, and Spiritualism. Lord knows our chakras need some cleansing. There is a special supplement in this week's issue of the Chronicle. Be sure to check it out if the other events don't quite float your boat.
www.worldwellness.org As always, for more info on what is going on around Austin be sure to check out the Chrontourage site or the calendar section of the chronicle. We'll see you on the town!

Who among us didn't like the 60's? Ok so a number of us weren't around but those times did contribute a lot to modern cutlure. When I say culture I mean cartoons. Specifically SPEED RACER paved the way for the import of Japanese cartoons (or Anime, or Japanimation, or whatever you want to call it) to the U.S. thus giving nerds across the country reason to flock together to discuss pointy hair and localization. I know because I was one of those nerds and still am to some degree. Tonight (Monday, May 5, 7-10pm), to celebrate this highly influential series and the upcoming SPEED RACER live action movie we are teaming up with the folks at The United States Art Authority and I Luv Video to bring you as many SPEED RACER episodes as we can fit into three hours. We will also have SPEED RACER trivia, passes to the SPEED RACER sneak preview on May 6, special giveaways from the I Luv Video, Spider House, and more! For those of you of age there will be drink specials: $1 select drafts, $2 wells, and the very special $3 Mach 5's specially created by the U.S. Art Authority bartenders just for this occasion! Race on out! Just don't speed because that would be illegal. www.unitedstatesartauthority.com
