Austin Tattoo Shops Offering Friday the 13th Deals

By Sarah Marloff, July 12, 2018, 4:55pm, Events Blog

A holiday of sorts for tattoo lovers, Friday the 13th tattoos are an ongoing tradition at parlors across the country. So popular, in fact, Vice recently called it the “Black Friday” of tattoos.

Participating shops offer a sheet (or several) of pre-drawn, small flash art to choose from. You pick what you want and they’ll tattoo it on ya – legs or arms only (usually – all shops are different). Back in the old days, these tattoos were only $13, but inflation’s real, so some shops charge more or set a required tip.

We’ve rounded up a few Austin shops offering discounted Friday the 13th tattoos. Because it’s a well-loved practice that’s gaining popularity, and because it’s first come, first served, those looking for some new flash – or artsy design – should expect to wait in line. Bring a friend; it’s better that way. And please remember to tip your artist.

All Saints (514 E. Sixth)

All Saints has achieved peak-level speed and offers a large selection of art to choose from (for $31 – see what they did there?). Plus, they offer color for those interested. They’ll be tattooing from 10am to 2am. Almost makes a trip to Dirty worth it. Actually, it totally makes it worth it.

Mom’s (1703 S. Lamar)

If you’re south of the river and looking for brightly colored work, Mom’s is the place to be. They’ve got a slew of options including a hot dog and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles logo, not to mention some other legit flash. First come, first served.

Dovetail Tattoo East (1703 E. Cesar Chavez)

This East Austin shop is offering a few specials in honor of Friday the 13th, but it’s not your typical $13 flash. Artist Ka Coatl is offering several designs for $100-130 (cash only). The proceeds, however, will be donated to RAICES to help reunite families. See his Instagram @el_sando for deets.

Sharing the shop are Tarence Newsome and Catherine Alice, also offering some special art at lower prices. Newsome’s flash starts at $60 and works its way up to include element inspired roses (see more: @tarencenewsome), while Alice is offering outlines for $31 and full color for $60-80 (@catherine_alice_). We suggest giving both locations a call for more details.

Amillion Tattoo (8556 Research)

Handing them out from noon to midnight. Cash only. And please don’t ask about removing the 13 – they won't. It’s part of the design and the deal. Cash only.

Arthouse Tattoo (15409 RR 620 N.)

Arthouse does offer the deal, but they do it differently with an online sign up that opened Wednesday. Slots are currently full, but you can track on Facebook in case something changes. Tattoos are $31 plus a $9 tip.

Austin Tattoo Company (5241 N. Lamar)

These folks are getting a little crazy. They’re offering loads of designs for $13 plus a $7 tip – for good luck – and they’re going for 24 hours straight.

*Note: Electric 13 Tattoo on the Drag will be closed, and Triple Crown on Chicon will not be participating in the tradition.
