By Thomas Danh, May 15, 2017, 2:31pm, Events Blog
Now in it’s sixth year, Big Medium’s West Austin Studio Tour (WEST) features 331 participants at over 300 locations. The amount of art is staggering, even for a seasoned attendee. Here are some close proximity stops that’ll help you make the most out of this year’s art tour.
• 6-34
Catch the work of 12 different artists, including Jan Knox, Melanie Lewis, and Jeff Englert at
Austin Art Space. While most stops in this group feature acrylics, oils, pastels, and more on canvas, you’re not limited! The
FullMoon/YellowHouse displays digital photography, culture, and metalworks.
• 35-45
Love all types of art? This is where you’ll want to be. Smoke-fired earthenware by Sarah de Berry. Found object constructions from Cliona Gunter. Kiln formed and cast glass by Glenda Kronke. You’re bound to find something to fit your taste with art that’s as eclectic as Austin itself.
• 98-118
The Arc of the Arts Studio is a fine arts program offered by The Arc of the Capital Area, which provides art education, gallery space, and professional development for adults with disabilities. This round of stops also includes mixed media, ceramics, photography, and upcycled materials.
• 119-127
Are acrylics your thing? Austin native Caroline Wright blends panting with dance and performance. John Le recreates pieces focused on our overstimulated societal interaction with media and technology. L. Renee Nunez has installations of biomorphic sculptures made of acrylic on aluminum. Come get your fix.
•158-175
Rose Street Studio featuring Dwain Kelley will be hosting Mary Barminski Johnson and Yolanda Santoyo. This is a studio you won’t want to miss. Mixed media, sculpture, and handcrafted jewelry are the dominant mediums here.
• 194-217
Here’s what you’re going to get at
Art for the People: wood, metal, acrylic, textiles, mixed media, watercolor, furniture, and weaving. Take a tour within a tour of what WEST has to offer in one stop. Stop by
Platinum Portraits & Fine Art Photography for hand-printed black and white photos, platinum on cotton rag paper for a unique take.
