Whether you’re a veteran of Big Medium’s 15th East Austin Studio Tour (EAST) or brand new, it can be a bit overwhelming. We’ve put together a list of close proximity tour stops with some nearby eats and drinks that will help you get the most out of your tour.
Cherrywood
81-97: Acrylics and oils your thing? You’ll want to give these stops a try. RUST RED STUDIO, Little Blue House, Practice Space, and a couple artist studios are going to have some serious showcases in the area. Cherrywood Coffeehouse is a quick walk away, and they serve a brunch that’s heavy on the flavor and easy on the wallet.
Blackland
101-111: If you’re new to East, or even new to the world of art, these pits stops will give you a taste of the whole tour. With a wide range of art including paintings, ceramics, and photography, you’re bound to find something to fit your taste. Once you decide, stop by Haymaker for $2 mimosas on Sunday.
Chestnut
116-132: Leona Gallery, curated by Billy Bishop, Lydia Emily, Josef Kristofoletti, and Tim Kerr, is not something you’ll want to miss. Painting, printing, photography, music, and film are all available here. Had a long night? Benny Coffee is just down the road, and it’s open 24 hours.
Central East Austin
133-158: If you’re looking for up and coming artists, look no further than Kealing Middle School. The Kealing Fine Arts program is presenting an art show exhibiting student work. Come support the next generation of artists, then satisfy your sweet tooth at Blue Dahlia Bistro with Poached pears, Creme brûlée, or some Parisian Macarons.
Webberville
159-173: Natalie Ready has a background in graphic arts and photography and will be at Eastside Woodworks, showcasing some serious woodworking, incorporated with other mediums such as metal, glass, paint, and fire. Match this eclectic art with Fleet Coffee’s new “coffee and” menu- The Saturday Morning Ritual has Fruity Pebble-infused milk, espresso, and crispy treat.
East Austin
174-208: Austin Tinkering School is having hands-on activities and The Vessel, a Meow-Wolf inspired immersive interactive installation in their backyard. Stop at Sa-Ten, a Japanese-inspired coffee-house you likely won’t find elsewhere.
Holly
437-465: This round of stops is ideal for mixed media art lovers. Stop by Zipper Wayne Studio, East Side Collective, SprATX, Holly Street Studio and more to get your fix. If you’re feeling a little hungry, Launderette has some of the best snacky bits on the east side.
East Cesar Chavez
489-500 & 522-526: Into ceramics? Jennifer Chenoweth has some solid guests for East. Kristen Saksa Juen, Tammie Ruben, and Carla Hughes will all be at Fisterra Studio. Stop by Cenote and grab an cold brewed coffee, and my favorite thing in the world: migas tacos.
508-520: While you’re in the area, check out digital photography prints from the Austin School of Photography! ASOP provides comprehensive classes from beginners to working professionals coming straight out of Austin. Grab a bite to eat at Silo on 7th, which makes a mean Banh Mi Burger.
