Before: Check out one of the 1,500 food trucks that frequent the street corners and parks. It's an easy way to get gourmet food that doesn't break the bank.
Also, check out some of the First Plate winners who are chosen by our food editors with their knowledgeable taste buds: www.austinchronicle.com/food/first-plates/
During: Now here's what and who to look for at the X Games now that you've taken a look around the city. High ranking game favorites like Ryan Sheckler (Street Skateboarding), Travis Pastrana (RallyCross), Brian Deegan (Motocross) will of course grace Austin for our viewing pleasure. Sorry, Aggressive in-line skating will not make a triumphant return for all you Brink fans.
Rookie rippers like Riley Hawk (Tony Hawk's son) who will compete in Skateboarding street, 20 year old Joni Winman will test his speed and stamina in RallyCross, and Kevin Pereza will be hitting the BMX street course for the first time in these games.
If you're in Austin Thursday, Tony Hawk and friends will be putting on a demo Downtown at 5pm, before the BMX and Skate Vert finals take place later that night. These are the only events that will take place Downtown, and not at CoTA.
Friday, things get kicked off early at CoTA with BMX Street finals, and Men's Skate Street elimination. That night Skate Big Air will have their elimination and finals, and should not be missed.
Saturday be sure to check out BMX Dirt final, an event that hasn't been held since 2006, the Skateboarding Park final, MotoX speed & Style and Freestyle finals, followed by the BMX big Air finals. Sunday starts with the BMX Park final, and ends with Men's Skateboard Street final.
Are you not entertained? Well, on top of the competition, bands from around the country will be playing on four different stages all day and night, with headliners Pretty Lights, Kanye West, and the Flaming Lips. Check out the X Games schedule link for full listings and times. www.xgames.espn.go.com/events/2014/austin/schedule/
After: Austin's trademarked weirdness has something for everyone. The Sixth street night life has a walkabout college aesthetic depending on where you are. Reminiscence of your favorite college street, and there you are, but on a much larger scale. Austin also has hiking trails, natural springs, rivers, lakes, graffiti parks, shopping on South Congress, and food everywhere.
