Paramount Summer Classic Film Series

By Jordan Roberts, July 12, 2012, 11:30am, Events Blog

Beat the heat all summer long watching classic films and participating in themed special events during the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series!

Walking down Congress, it’s easy to spot the Paramount Theatre’s sign, studded with light bulbs, prominently displaying the feature event of the day. Not only is the Paramount Theatre an Austin landmark and entertainment venue, but come summertime it’s transformed into a film beacon that summons classic moviegoers.

The house lights dim while a large, red curtain opens across the stage. Flickering light from the movie projector splashes images of the film’s opening title sequence onto the big screen. With popcorn and drink in hand, the perfect atmosphere is set for this theatrical experience, the way these classic films were meant to be seen.

Upcoming Special Events:

7.15.12
Martinis & Manicures: Breakfast at Tiffany’s screening complete with a mini-manicure and martini before joining Holly Golightly, Paul Varjak, and Cat. This film is an Audrey Hepburn classic that’s not to be missed with its outrageous apartment parties, trips to Tiffany’s, hazardous long-stemmed cigarettes, and serenades on the fire escape. You’ll leave just CRAZY about Breakfast at Tiffany’s and your newly manicured nails!

7.21.12
A Grease Sing-Along Extravaganza hosted by Austin’s favorite fabulous drag personality Rebecca Havemeyer. Calling all T-Birds, Pink Ladies, and Beauty School dropouts: Come sing your hearts out to this rocking musical. Proceeds benefit the AIDS Services of Austin! And be sure to sport your best Danny rockabilly do or Sandy attire—either the good girl poodle skirt version or bad girl head-to-toe leather—for the Grease costume contest! Tell me about it, stud.

7.24.12
Nosferatu Blood Drive prepares you for the Paramount’s “Horror Week” by sucking your blood out for a good cause before this spooky, silent vampire film. Nosferatu’s haunting imagery will give you chills, and it doesn’t involve any vampires with perfectly coiffed hair driving sports cars. Donate blood and get into the show for free, plus be entered to win a $500 Southwest Airlines voucher! Team Count Orlok!
