My Music Crush on Shakey Graves

By Nicole Wagner, December 21, 2011, 1:46pm, Events Blog

A couple weeks ago I stumbled upon Shakey Graves, one of the most captivating bands (actually just one guy) playing in a bar and I can’t stop thinking about it.

Shakey Graves is Alejandro Rose-Garcia, “a gentlemen from Texas”, and he sure is. Not only is he a really polite and unassuming guy, and somewhat mysterious when trying to find info on him, but his music is incredible — a gritty lo-fi soul of country and blues. As his faithful fans and I were watching Rose-Garcia at Papi Tino’s on the Eastside, it was magical, like being transported to an old west cantina — like that moment in the movie when suspension of disbelief sweeps you away, with a mezcal in hand (and head). So it didn't surprise me when I later read about how his music has been inspired by his travels, as he says of his upcoming album: “12 brand new songs that stand as a tribute to everyone who has extended their hand, offered their couch, and perked up their ears”.

You can find his music on iTunes and his Bandcamp site, on which you can name your own price for his album of 10 songs and 2 bonus tracks.

Transport yourself to that dusty Old West cantina, and go see Shakey Graves tomorrow at Hole in the Wall and on New Year’s Even at Papi Tino’s.
