MONOLITHIC DOME GOODS Nope, "monolithic" is not our new slang du jour substitute for "awesome," "rad," or "cat's meow." Although, we must say, all things monolithic *are* basically awesome, rad, and the cat's meow. The Domes for the World nonprofit and Monolithic Dome Institute (or as we like to call them, "Those Monolithic People"), you know, those folks whose puffy caterpiller Bruco you pass on your way to DFW, is selling all sorts of great holiday gifties to support their cause of "providing permanent, fireproof, disaster-resistant homes and community buildings," as their mission says, "that are shaped like pregnant mushrooms," as we say. Pregnant mushrooms that are the coolest freaking architectural cowpatties this side of that R. Buckminster Fullerian EPCOT ball, that's for sure. For less than $15, you can potentially flavor your pal's favorite wall with 12 months of domey goodness with Monolithic's 2010 Calendar. Sweet balls of round corner door bucks! There's hats, shirts, and mugs featuring the swooshy domers logo can be had for between $6 and $20. And then for the strongly intended, there are books, CDs, and DVDs with titles like Dome Living, How to Build an EcoShell, and Urethane Foam: Magic Material and the Best Kept Insulation Secret Evarrrr (okay, we added that last word). Now, for the truly hardcore, those building their own dome, there are floor plans, CO2 Meters, Spray Smocks (with pants), Anchor Points, and more. You'll be able to boast the difference between shotcrete and jello shots in no time. 117 Dome Park PL, Italy, TX 76651, 972/483-7423, www.monolithic.com.
