We awoke to sad news from NOLA: The adorable Hubig's pie factory in New Orleans' Faubourg Marigny was taken out in an early morning fire.
Iconic in the Big Easy in the way that El Milagro tortilla chips are here, Hubig's Pies are beloved by locals and gathered as treasures and souvenirs by visitors. The factory, with its classic, friendly mid-century neon is a welcome-home beacon to pub crawlers on their way to Mimi's in the Marigny and other area drinkeries. (Hubig's lemon pie, btw, is a great hangover cure for some of us who've worn out our welcome on those crawls.)
The damage has been declared a total loss – harrowing in light of the structure's mere-yards proximity to neighboring homes – and Facebook pages of many other New Orleans businesses are abuzz with intentions to help.
Long live Hubig's. Your pals in Texas hope you rise like glorious, delicious fried phoenixes in no time.
