Fools Rush In
Annual pun-off is all full – sorta
By Monica Riese, 4:55PM, Tue. Apr. 1, 2014

The April Fools Day registration for the annual O. Henry Pun-Off was over almost as quickly as it began.
Registration opened at noon, and by 12:24pm, they had 32 registrants (the cap) for Punniest of Show; six minutes later, they had 32 Punslingers as well. Prospective punsters are encouraged to continue to sign up on the wait lists, as they will be called upon to fill any spots vacated by drop-outs and cancellations.
But for those of you just wanting to pull up a seat and listen to the city's wordsmiths go, you're in fine shape. Simply note that this year's event is May 10 (the second weekend rather than the third in order to avoid conflicts with UT commencement), and then head on down to Brush Square Park in the backyard of the O. Henry Museum and enjoy the show. Live music kicks off at 11am, and the competitions follow at noon and 3pm for Punniest of Show and Punslingers, respectively.
Meanwhile, check out this perfect 40-point performance from Joe Sabia in 2007.
