Millions of Americans Are Strange

A Strange Object, you may recall, is one of Austin's finer literary engines – publisher of fierce wordsmithery as often as they can.

Last time out, they brought us Three Scenarios in Which Hana Sasaki Grows a Tail, Kelly Luce's debut collection that raised an appreciative fuss across the more bookish parts of this benighted world.

And now they're debuting Nicholas Grider's collection of stories called Misadventure, in which "Millions of Americans Are Strange" is the featured story at Tuesday night's vodka-spiked pre-release party in Big Medium's Canopy Space on Springdale.

But, ah, just how is this story going to be "featured," you ask? Well, it's going to be read aloud, of course, duh. But. Check this:

Each of the story's many sentences will be read by a different person, with a couple (?) a few (?) maybe several (?) dozen readers performing the story's discrete pieces in a flowing multivoiced sequence there among the visual splendors of PrintAustin's "The Contemporary Print" show while Dripping Springs vodka disappears down various happy bibliophile gullets and the whole scene threatens to transubstantiate into a sort of blissful belles-lettres mist of souls.

Yes, we know it's going to be really cold and drizzly on Tuesday night.

Yes, maybe it's even a bit strange to be part of such a shindig under those conditions.

But, goddamnit, we are one of millions of Americans – and we sure as hell will be there, digging the Grider, sipping that clear potato-based elixir, and we hope that you will, too.
