Nobelity Project Hosts Book Drive

Books can take you places you'd only dream. But somehow the books have to get to those places too, right? The Nobelity Project – activist Turk Pipkin's pet project – is hosting a book drive and needs your help.

You may remember the Nobelity name from Building Hope, the 2011 documentary that tracked the process of building a secondary school in Kenya. Now they're at it again with The Art of Moving Books: a partnership with the Roatan Sandcastle Library in Honduras that endeavors to bring books and learning opportunities to 14 villages comprising 3,500 students in the small Central American nation.

For those more artistically minded, they're also inviting submissions for the bookmobile's exterior. Whoever's design is chosen will accompany the team in mid-May to lead in the painting project. Other honors will be doled out to the best plan for getting books to under-served communities ($250) and the best submissions from youths about the theme: the Art of Moving Books.

If you're not an artist but still want to help, the Nobelity Project is collecting new and gently used Spanish language books (especially those geared toward children) for the blossoming Honduran library. You can drop off donations at the Mexic-Arte Museum (419 Congress) or mail them to:

(Still not your thing? Make a donation that'll go toward the purchase of new books on Nobelity's website.)
