Latinitas, the first digital magazine made for and by young Latinas, celebrates 10 years of operation this spring. In order to fund its programs – the girl-empowering website, which nets 30,000 readers a month, and vigorous community outreach – the organization will hold its annual Fotos de mi Alma photography auction tomorrow.
Now in its sixth year, the fundraiser will feature the work of professional photographers from Austin and around the world. In a recent press release, Fotos Event Chair (and photographer) Maria Madrigal named some of this year's contributors: “Photographers like Colombiana Claudia Calle, Athens, GA filmmaker Josh Meltzer, Mexico City’s Dulce Pinzon, Tehran’s Ramin Samandari and Austin’s own KXAN-TV photographer Charlie Harper, gallery-owner Leslie Nowlin, Kaleidoscope of Color’s Skip Hunt, Austin American Statesman photographer Deborah Cannon and Mexic-Arte featured photographer Diego Huerta are spotlighting new narratives, Latino and other through pictures, abstraction and just pure beautiful photography.”
The event takes place Thursday, March 29, 6-9pm, Emma Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (600 River St.). Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door; get a jumpstart and purchase your tickets early here.
