Yesterday, we told you about all the the comics on offer, all completely free and gratis, for Free Comic Book Day on May 7. So the next question is, where can you get your hands on all this complimentary four-color fun?
Free comic book day is not just about collectors grabbing something extra for their long boxes: This is a once-a-year opportunity to introduce people who think all comics are the same to some of the best titles on the market.
Remember, most stores will only allow you to take a certain number of titles, to make sure that everyone gets at least some. Here are the local stores, plus a list of the special events they are planning.
Austin Books and Comics Austin's own Chris Roberson (Superman) will be signing issues of his new series Elric: The Balance Lost, and he will be joined by fellow Austinite Paul Maybury (Aqua Leung, Party Bear). Legendary artist David Mack (Kabuki, Daredevil) will also be making a special visit. Also watch out for a special appearance by the mighty 501st Legion. All hail Vader's Fist! 5002 N. Dragon's Lair Three creators will be signing their free issues: Bill Williams (Spike, Angel, JSA) wrote Richie Rich, while writer Joe Harris (Ghost Projekt) and Eisner-nominated artist Brett Wedele (Surrogates) collaborated on Spontaneous. Tribe Comics and Games Feeling crafty and competitive? There will be trivia events throughout the day with food freebies, plus a costume contest with prizes donated by Half Price Books and Outrageous Outfits.
