Chris Ware and Seth at the Texas Book Festival

If you’re at all into comics – at least, comics that depict other than the antics of Spandex-clad superbeings slugging the shit out of each other in the name of justice or whatever – then just the headline above will have you twitching with anticipatory glee.

Chris Ware, former promising cartoonist for UT’s Daily Texan, current world-renowned maestro of Acme Novelty Library, of Jimmy Corrigan and Building Stories and Rusty Brown, of anything that requires stunning draftsmanship, nonpareil design skills, high intelligence, and big heart; also a tricksy varmint. Seth, former person-with-the-usual-two-names, current well-dressed man responsible for the nostalgic and deeply bittersweet siblingsroman Clyde Fans and with a back catalog that includes inside-baseball tomes like George Sprott and Wimbledon Green and the long-running Palookaville floppy and his various talky misadventures with fellow artists Chester Brown and Joe Matt up there in the Great White North.
I mean. The two of them. Ware and Seth. Together, in Austin, holding forth on their storied works and whimsies, as part of the 24th annual Texas Book Festival.
To be precise: “Epic Time Capsules of Ordinary Life,” on Saturday, Oct. 26, 12:15-1pm; Capitol Auditorium E1.004, 1100 Congress.
Like, it’s not enough that Kevin Huizenga is gonna be here this weekend, too, with his The River at Night?
