Flatbed World Headquarters: Opening! Opening! Opening!

By Wayne Alan Brenner, September 15, 2017, 12:15pm, All Over Creation

You know Austin Museum Day isn’t until Sunday, so we figured it’s a good idea to offer something else a little earlier, to note tonight’s triumphant trio of opening visual-art receptions under one vast Eastside roof.

Although, tbh, we’re really using any excuse we can find to display this new She’s Watching piece by Abi Daniel.

What a creepy fucking flower, right? What a stunning image and what a wealth of gaze-defining, botanically embodied subtext with which to tantalize the thinking parts of your brain.

But, see, running this image is also kind of the point here – because that Abi Daniel artwork is among the new offerings at Recspec Gallery. And, in addition to the receptions for new shows by Christopher St. Leger at Gallery Shoal Creek and William T. Carson at Camiba Art, Flatbed World Headquarters is also featuring the grand-opening debut of Recspec Gallery tonight.

Like Recspec wasn’t already doing enough by increasing the power of the world’s visual identities via its impressive graphic-design bureau? Like Flatbed itself, in conjunction with the Camiba and Shoal Creek shows and its own current Texas Bird Project display and more, wasn’t already one of the prime destinations for new art in this city?

Yeah, well. Pardon the metaphor in such proximity to the recent destructions from Harvey and Irma, but tonight’s three-part event is a perfect storm of gallery celebration.

[Note: Maybe that’s why they call it an “umbrella” organization?]

In any case, come rain or shine, we – and that flower of Abi Daniel’s – look forward to seeing you there.
