Former vice president and one-man meme Joe Biden will stop at the Paramount Theatre in December as part of his American Promise Tour. He’ll promote his new book, but also, according to the press release, "connect friends and neighbors around the topics that matter most." Is there nothing he can't do?
Biden (aka, Leslie Knope’s eternal crush) visited SXSW earlier this year to outline plans for his cancer initiative. His son Beau Biden died from brain cancer in 2015, prompting Joe Biden to design a call-to-action in defeating the illness. His upcoming book, Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose (to be published November 14) discusses balancing his personal and political life.
According to the press release the book tour stops will function as “conversations.” At a time when political discourse is on the level of grade-school playground insults, our hope is the tour will at least reach the same level as the Obama-Biden imaginary conversation memes. Biden will speak on his political career’s critical moments and the decisions he reached in order to overcome various challenges. Want to feel those good Biden vibes without leaving the house? The tour kicks off with a visit to another American treasure, Oprah Winfrey, for a talk on OWN’s Super Soul Sunday, November 12.
The American Promise Tour at the Paramount takes place on Friday, December 8. If you’re a Paramount Theatre donor you can get tickets at 10am on Tuesday, July 18. The rest of you will have to wait until Friday, July 28, when the tickets go on sale to the general public. Each ticket includes a copy of the book, so you can take a piece of Biden home with you.
