As we implied in an earlier review when the thing first dropped, this book’s a definite keeper, the kind of work you want in hardcover.
But damned if we’re not partial to softcovers, you know?
They’re so much more malleable, easier to stash in a purse or an oversized jacket pocket – even trade paperbacks are, if that jacket (and its attendant pocket) is exceptionally oversized.
Such an approachable object, a paperback book.
And we want to take this fantastic Aptowicz volume, a True Tale of Intrigue and Innovation at the Dawn of Modern Medicine, with us everywhere. To peruse while we’re waiting at a busstop somewhere. To read at length while benching it in a sun-dappled city park. To keep our mind fascinated, our hand turning pages, while our mouth is nibbling at, say, a raspberry/creamcheese croissant in a favorite coffeehouse.
So, a paperback, yes!
And tonight – the reason for this post – the author’s presenting this new edition at BookPeople at 7pm. What better way to acquire a cherished book than from the very person who wrote it? We suggest: No better way, actually.
We’ll see you there!
