New Tweet Dreams Show Debuts at ColdTowne

By Wayne Alan Brenner, September 30, 2015, 1:30pm, All Over Creation

Listen: Using dreams submitted via Twitter, ten actors and comedians delve into the human psyche using short-form games, song, and Chicago-style scenework.

“Chicago-style scenework.”

So this Tweet Dreams features spontaneously generated, ingeniously executed, Del Close-inspired improv comedy, right?

“We want to put up something that lives at the intersection of comedy and performance art,” says Erika May McNichol of longtime improv troupe the Frank Mills, now director of this new show that runs Saturdays at 8:30pm at ColdTowne Theatre, through October 31.

This particular something could come from your own dreams, citizen – and you could watch those dreams being transformed into scenes of hilarity and odd meaning.

[Note: Submit your dreams via @tweetdreamsatx on Twitter.]

“I really wanted to do something different than the persona-driven shows I’d directed for the past two seasons,” says McNichol. “I was really itching to get back to the idea of thematic play, and incorporation of old-school organic elements – and the fabric of dreams and those ideas seemed to go together.”

And having the dreams submitted as tweets keeps everything concise and easier to manage. Not to mention generating a bit of buzz as descriptions of, say, what you & Benedict Cumberbatch were doing with a marmoset in that submarine the night before make their way through the Twitterverse.

Make their way through the Twittererverse, we say … and, if your dream is among those chosen each night, it’ll be performed onstage by Cortnie Jones, Lisa Jackson, Sanjay Rao, Ian Townsend, Ed Reed, Molly Moore, Megan Mowry, Katie Moore, Juliet Prather, and Cene Hale, right there against the faux brick wall of ColdTowne’s intimate interior. In true comedy club style.

[Pro tip for the hungry or romantically inclined: Before the show, enjoy some of the delicious cuisine at nearby Komé on Airport.]

We bet it’ll be one hell of a fun night for you!
