Dogs in Drag

Jo's rolls out another parade of pets

Yes, you read right, and it's going to be fabulous.

Let's get real for a moment: This town loves dogs. And this town especially loves doing human things. We put our beloved pets in strollers (they're sort of like babies, anyway, aren't they?), we let them doggie-dine at restaurants, and we even swim with them at Town Lake.

So, what better way to celebrate our furry friends than by heading out to Jo's Coffee's 16th Annual Pet Parade and costume contest? Yes, you get to dress up your four-legged bundle of joy in full-blown drag and parade down South Congress this Saturday to benefit Austin Pets Alive and honor animal lover Lyndon Lambert, founder of George (purveyors of affordable and tasteful pet products) and bro of Jo's owner, Liz.

Just look at that blonde bombshell!

Beginning at noon, doggies and humans are asked to congregate in front of Hudson's Meat Market (1800 S. Congress) to strut their stuff, accompanied by marching band, all the way down to Jo's Coffee. If there was ever a time to let your pup's freak flag fly, here it is. The more outrageous the costumes, the better, because the most glammed-out doggies will win gift cards, trophies, or even a night's stay at Hotel San Jose. Oh, and don't worry. This fabulous parade is not just fun for dogs. There will be live music, a bouncy house, cotton candy, and a visit from the Easter Bunny. So, pre-register your pet today, Friday, April 3, and enjoy the pinnacle of human achievement: dressing cute furry friends like people.
