They Call Him Blowfly

And he's at the Out Of Bounds Comedy Festival tonight

As his grandmother reportedly said:
As his grandmother reportedly said:
"You is nastier than a blowfly."

If you can imagine "Weird" Al Yankovic crossed with Redd Foxx in his blue-humor phase, you're still not quite grokking the totality of what the musical nasty-factory of Blowfly is and does.

But, ah, you're not too far off.

Born Clarence Henry Reid, and long since transmogrified – onstage, at least – into a sort of garishly costumed supervillain of funk & filth, Blowfly performs perverted versions of popular songs and cuts loose with a few of his own rantum-scantum ditties. (Well, hey: As a legit tunesmith, the prolific Mr. Reid penned songs for KC & the Sunshine Band and Sam & Dave back in the day.)

Sometimes these antics are documented in a feature film.

Sometimes these antics bring litigious backlash, Wikipedia tells us, as when songwriter and then-president of ASCAP Stanley Adams sued Blowfly for spoofing Adams' "What a Diff'rence a Day Makes" as "What a Difference a Lay Makes." (Our heart, Wikipedia fails to report, totally fucking bleeds for Adams, y'know?)

Sometimes, like tonight's show at the Out Of Bounds Comedy Festival, the props that accompany Blowfly's performances are as wild as the songs themselves – although we can't yet confirm rumors that the man's gonna be flanked by two giant Rick Perry heads that will be spitting tampons. Still, we reckon there's gonna be major x-rated shenanigans among the rap and the rhythm & blues, shenanigans spelled B-L-O-W-F-L-Y, Downtown at the Paramount's Stateside Theatre tonight, after the local parody foursome known as The Dung Beatles unleash an archly scatalogical set of their own on that formerly undesecrated stage.

As of press time, tickets are still available!
