Fantastic Fest: Dr. Ronald Chevalier at BookPeople
Jemaine Clement to get all meta-nutty when he reads in character at BookPeople on Friday
By Kimberley Jones, 1:59PM, Wed. Sep. 23, 2009
Reading is fundamental, sure, but Friday's reading at BookPeople is fundamentally a lie – a really fun lie, we should add. Because when you see Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) at BookPeople on Friday, he'll be in character as the entirely fictitious sci-fi/fantasy novelist Dr. Ronald Chevalier.
In conjunction with Thursday night's Fantastic Fest premiere of Gentlemen Broncos, the new film from Napoleon Dynamite's Jared and Jerusha Hess, BookPeople will host a reading from the faux-author of such non-legendary titles as Cyborg Harpies, Brain Cream, and Brutus & Balzaak and a leading proponent of the utterly made up (we think??) genre of scifaiku.
Speaking of, you're invited to submit your own attempts at crossbreeding sci-fi and haiku: Dr. Chavalier will be picking the best three to read aloud at BookPeople.
Go here for info on the BookPeople reading, which takes place Friday (9/25) at 4pm, and here to purchase tickets to the Thursday night (9/24) Paramount premiere.
