Marginal Conundrums

Vockah Redu The Ting Tings
Vockah Redu The Ting Tings

Does the practice of pointing out items of LGBTQ interest within the larger cultural scheme marginalize us further? Or does it establish definition and boundaries as our lives become less and less subcultural? Turfs and histories deserve respect. From our vantage point, the mainstream has been ripping off folks outside the lines for so long, it's essential to assert cultural identity. It's not an exclusionary thing. It's moving the margin lines – while inviting in.

Or ... fuck art, let's dance and go watch some shows?

Keep up with us even after you leave the craziness of SXSW behind. Write to us at gayplace@austinchronicle.com, and follow our antics all year long at austinchronicle.com/gay.
