According to MinnPost, children aged 14 and younger in the U.S. are 16 times more likely to die from an accidental gunshot wound than children in other developed countries.

According to Michelle J. Budig in The Fatherhood Bonus and the Motherhood Penalty, for each child a woman has, her wages will decrease by about 4%. When a man has a child, however, his earnings increase by 6% with the same factors taken into account.

The paper clip was invented in 1899, and its design hasn't been improved upon since. William Middle­brook received a patent for the design, not of the clip, but of the machinery that made it. He sold the patent to the American office-supply manufacturer Cushman & Denison, who trademarked it as the Gem clip in 1904.

Gerhard Knies, particle physicist, calculated that in six hours the world's desert areas receive more solar energy than the energy consumed by people in a year.
