There are no bears currently native to Africa.
According to author Maeve E. Doggett, a Victorian-era "law" allowing the battering of women may be urban myth. It was believed husbands had the legal right to beat their wives if they used a stick no thicker than their thumb. Doggett, however, says there never was such a law.
