The Gay Place

By Kate Getty and Kate X Messer, August 15, 2008, Columns

Your friendly, neighborhood Gay Place is still blushing from the United Court of Austin's luvfest. The Coronation Ball was a blast. We humbly submit that while it's a bit of an "in-on-in" affair, the show would translate well to a more public setting – like Mardi Gras balls or crowning Miss Texas. Parts of the show should be reserved for members only, but the actual coronation would make for a wonderful annual tradition for all of Austin to enjoy.

The Austin Chronicle and Gay Place were given this year's Phoenix Award. We're proud as peacocks. See austinchronicle.com/gayplaceblog for more.

Enough gushing. On to some bitching.

Why the hell are aGLIFF and the Austin Gay Rodeo scheduled for the same weekend? What were y'all thinking? What about those of us who enjoy emergent queer cinema and getting our yee-haw on? Too many bubbles in our town. Time for some popping. Get it together, people. Collaborate. Coordinate. Join forces. Unite. Group hug. Blah blah blah. See Now & Later, p.70, for more.
