About AIDS

OZ Parties garage sale is Sept. 17

Since 1997, The OZ Parties has provided poz people with comfortable and fun social events where HIV is not an issue. Parties, picnics, camp-outs, backyard barbecues, etc., are held throughout the year. Every HIV-positive person is welcome, plus partners, spouses, family, and good friends. OZ is an all-volunteer effort guided completely by those who participate, and it raises all its own entertaining funds.

The OZ Parties’ annual Garage Sale – their only fundraiser – will be Saturday, Sept. 17, from 7am to 1pm at 8435 Jamestown Dr. in north central Austin.

Donations are needed! Especially helpful items are bicycles, furniture, desks, shelving, clothing, books, kitchenware, and electronics. Remember, big items bring in big bucks! All donations are tax-deductible; just ask for a tax receipt when dropping off your saleable goods.

Volunteers are needed, too! On Wednesday and Friday mornings, Sept. 14 & 16, there will be lots of sorting, preparing, and pricing of the fabulous donations for Saturday’s extravaganza. Volunteers also will be needed for the sale itself. And yes, non-HIVer friends and family are encouraged to come help.

So, you’re HIV-positive but ready to date, or at least get to know some HIV-positive people socially. Two tried ’n’ true ways to make contact are volunteering and going to parties. And one OZ Parties stone can bonk both birds! So if poz people want to meet other poz people, here’s a great opportunity. And for non-HIV folks, here’s a chance to help out by supporting those you care about.

Donate your stuff – and then come by and buy! For more information about volunteering or dropping off donations, call 406-6408 or e-mail theozparties@hotmail.com. For the scoop on OZ social events, go to TheOzParties.org.
