Luv Doc Recommends: The Intergalactic Nemesis: Twin Infinity

To truly claim citizenship in Austin means having to occasionally step far out of your comfort zone. Not so bad you say? Well, maybe not, but in most places being uncomfortable means having to tell your neighbor that you’re not interested in buying AmWay products, regardless of their superior quality and cost savings. It might also mean diplomatically bowing out of attending your brother-in-law’s Christian rock concert even though he’s clearly moved by the spirit, or it might mean picking up coffee for the boss on the way into work in the morning, even though you ride a Vespa. Were it only that easy here in River City. At least once or twice a year you’re going to run into something really freaky – something that will induce what military planners like to call “shock and awe.” For instance, maybe your landlady will insist on carrying on a conversation with you about organic pest control while she breast-feeds her fully-toothed, 6-year-old son; or maybe your cubicle mate at work will invite you to assist him with his colonic irrigation; or maybe the bipolar ex you met in a Pharmaco study will corner you at the supermarket and make you promise to come see her debut in a highly kinetic piece of experimental theatre. Yes, very often things that seem commonplace in Austin populate the nightmares of folks in more milquetoast municipalities. Freakiness (along with freakishly high property taxes) is the price you pay to live in this little slice of heaven called the 787. Fortunately, many Austicans have built up a considerable tolerance to freakiness – in fact, embrace it, even jones for it like a hit of smack or a double espresso. If you’re one of them you already know you’re completely through the looking glass. You can never go back to Plano or Sugarland. They might as well be the moons of Jupiter. You need to forge ahead into the strangeness; peak your freak meter. One step in the right direction is east, toward the Off Center, where the Salvage Vanguard Theater is presenting Twin Infinity, the final installment of the Intergalactic Nemesis, a stage production of a fictional sci-fi radio show broadcasting in 1942, complete with Foley artist sound effects, audience participation, and live music by genius composer Graham Reynolds. Twin Infinity was written by Ray Colgan, Jason Neulander, and Chad Nichols and features the vocal talents of Mike D’Alonzo, LB Deyo, Lee Eddy, Jenny Larson, and Brent Werzner. Think about it: a live theatrical production of a fictional live sci-fi radio show set in 1942? If that doesn’t peak your freak meter, nothing will.
