About AIDS

February 5, 1999, Columns

The coming of the new millennium brings promise in the fight against HIV/AIDS. New therapies have helped to redefine the future of those infected with HIV. Although a cure is not in the immediate future, science has given us a renewed opportunity to live and enjoy life. Hopes and dreams are once again within our grasp. It's with hope in mind that a new service has been introduced to the Austin area -- Living Positive: HIV Dating Online (http://www.livingpositive.com).

Living Positive is a non-commercial, free, and anonymous HIV/AIDS dating service on the Internet. Although times have changed, dating for the HIV-infected can prove discouraging, so a local poz group has created a safer way to meet. Because Living Positive is on the Net, privacy and security is higher than other means of meeting. Interested people can post and view free personal notices in the privacy of their homes, using private e-mail to correspond.

The face of HIV has changed dramatically in the past decade, striking people from all walks of life. Thus, Living Positive is for all people: male, female, straight, gay, bisexual and transgender. We together are the face of HIV, and together we will live.
