Holiday Wish List, Part Two If you're just joining us from last week ("1997 Holiday Wish Lists, Part One"), you might recall that we were raging against the machine, railing against The Man, and advocating violent overthrow of apathy and self-righteous finger-pointing. So there. But if you weren't with us, what you missed was a list very much like the one you are looking at right here, of holiday wishes from area public service organizations.

No, these lists aren't filled will all kinds of warm and fuzzy, feel-good mushy sentiments like, "World Peace" or "We're too humble to actually ask for anything...." Nope, these are filled to the brim with Real Live Needs. Yup. These organizations need you. Yup.

Give what you can, okay? Why? Well, because, dammit. Because it's the holiday season, ferchrissakes. Because it's time to show that we are upstanding members of society. Because it's time to take responsibility for creating the type of society we can all be proud to call our own. And most of all because, chances are, nobody else will do it... Oh, that, and it's a great time to write off donations. (Phew. That should cover all the bases.) So here go some more wish lists.

Again, tremendous thanks go to intern Lisa Tozzi who compiled this baby with the assistance of intern Allison Lince-Bentley. Additional thanks go to Stewart Gallas from AIDS Services of Austin, first for having the idea and then for assisting in compiling these lists for the third year now. NOTE: The 1997 Holiday Wish Lists have been edited for space. All groups listed need office supplies, computers, and copiers. (We deleted these items first.)

Please call first for specifications, as some organizations have systems in place.

Cash and volunteer hours are universally understood.

Many organizations are happy to send holiday cards for your donations in loved one's names. So give already. Happy Holidays!
