Cartoonist Elzie Segar, creator of Popeye, based the character upon a
merchant sailor he knew in Chester, IL. Frank "Rocky" Fiegel was a drinker and
fighter of local renown, known
for his incredible strength. He died in
Chester in 1947.

Strawberries are in the rose (Rosaceae) family. Not really berries or fruit,
they are the enlarged ends of the stamen. "Strawberry" is a corruption
of
"strewberry," so named because the berries are strewn among the leaves of the
plant.
