The Greatest Gift to Your Community... Yourself! -- Volunteer!!!

There are many ways in which you can provide a vital service to people living with HIV/AIDS in living with dignity. We are looking for caring volunteers who have some time to dedicate in serving on the front line of combating this disease.

Helpers: Provide ongoing practical support, such as house cleaning, assistance with meal preparation, drives to medical appointments, grocery shopping, etc., for people who have limited reserves of strength and stamina. Volunteers are vital in this area of allowing people to have higher quality of life, and to live with dignity.

Buddies: Provide companionship and socialization opportunities to those who may have become isolated and alone due to the physical and emotional drain this disease puts on individuals, their friends, and their families.

There are many other areas and volunteer opportunities at AIDS Services of Austin where your services are so needed and appreciated. All of our volunteers attend our General Orientation session. Call 406-6150 for further information and to enroll. Helper and Buddy Volunteers attend a two-day weekend seminar to acquire the basic skills needed to work with a person living with AIDS. The next Buddy/Helper Training will be held Dec. 2-3. If you are interested in becoming more involved with AIDS in your community, please call 406-6151 or 451-2273 for further information.
